The course requires the following texts.
- Probability and Statistics: The Science of Uncertainty by
Michael J. Evans and Jeffrey S. Rosenthal, published by W.H. Freeman.
- Minitab Manual to accompany this text.
Course Description
STAB52H is a theoretical course. It is concerned with the mathematics of
probability theory.
Tutorials
Every student has to register in a tutorial through ROSI.
Do this as soon as possible. Attendance at tutorials
is mandatory. Some of the total mark will be determined will be based
on work done in the tutorials. There are no tutorials during the first week
of classes.
Evaluation
- There will be either a quiz held each week in your assigned
tutorial or you will be required to hand in an assignment to your tutor.
These are worth a total of 15%. See the course schedule to determine
when the quizzes will be conducted and on what material these will be based.
- The midterm exam (held on Feb. 1) is worth 30%.
- The final exam is worth 55%.
Minitab
Minitab
is the software package used in the course.
It is very easy to
use but it also has some fairly sophisticated capabilities.
Minitab is available on the Windows machines in the computer lab. After
you login just click on the Minitab icon.
You may wish to purchase a version of Minitab for your own computer.
It is not mandatory that you do this as the software is provided on the College
machines.
Alternatively you can "rent" Minitab from
e-academy.com.
